Weekends on the portal — open or closed?

Quick Answer

Vietnam's National Public Service Portal (dichvucong.gov.vn) runs 24/7 — you can file applications, upload documents and pay fees at any time, including Saturday and Sunday. However, officers only receive and process dossiers on working days (Monday–Friday, with Saturday-morning intake at some offices). Weekend submissions are processed from the next working day.

Users often report that the portal "doesn't work" on weekends: submitted dossiers show no updates and there's no support line. In reality the system runs normally — but dossier processing follows civil servants' working hours. Here's how the mechanism works and how to file effectively on a weekend.

One portal only: dichvucong.gov.vn

Under the roadmap of Decree 118/2025/NĐ-CP, provincial and ministry-level service portals (including the Ministry of Public Security's) have been consolidated into the National Public Service Portal. Since late May 2026 the National Portal has been officially operating on National Data Center infrastructure — dichvucong.gov.vn is the single address for online administrative procedures, with VNeID login.

  • Support hotline: 18001096 (working hours only);
  • Login: VNeID account (level-2 verified);
  • Common procedures: passport issuance, ID card, residence, driver license renewal...

Legal basis: the portal operates 24/7 per Decision 31/2021/QĐ-TTg; and under Decree 45/2020/NĐ-CP, dossiers filed outside office hours are counted as received from the next working hour.

What this means for passport and ID applications

Passport dossiers

For the online standard-passport procedure: processing takes 8 working days from acceptance of a valid dossier, with a fee of 200,000 VND (as published on the portal — re-check when filing).

ID card (căn cước) dossiers

Online filing works anytime; officers process on working days. In-person: ward police offices work Monday–Friday during office hours; some localities run weekend mobile ID drives during peak periods — watch local police announcements.

Tips for weekend filing

  • Prepare during the week: activate level-2 VNeID and test the login; scan documents in advance;
  • Get the photo right before filing — the portrait is the most common reason dossiers bounce. See the passport photo requirements and the fix for the portal's common background error;
  • File Friday night or over the weekend so your dossier sits at the front of Monday morning's queue;
  • Don't resubmit repeatedly when the system is slow — it can create duplicate dossiers. Wait 15–30 minutes, or use off-peak hours (early morning, after 10 pm);
  • Check status on Monday morning: open "My dossiers" — if the status asks for supplements, respond the same day so the application doesn't stall.
