Vietnamese citizens need a visa before entering South Korea. There are, however, a few special exemptions that many travellers don't know about.
When You Don't Need a South Korea Visa
- Jeju Island: 30-day visa-free entry on a direct international flight to Jeju airport (no transit through Seoul or other Korean cities)

About K-ETA
K-ETA (Korea Electronic Travel Authorization) is South Korea's electronic travel authorisation system, but does NOT apply to Vietnamese citizens. K-ETA is only for citizens of countries that already have visa-free access to Korea.

South Korea visa photos follow Ministry of Justice standards:

Special Background Rule
Unlike many other countries, South Korea accepts both light grey and white backgrounds. Light grey is preferred because it makes the face and hair stand out — especially for applicants with fair skin.

If you hold a valid US, Canadian, Australian or New Zealand visa and you fly to/from those countries via Korea, you qualify for a 30-day transit exemption. Direct flights from Vietnam to Korea still require a visa.
