How to remove face shadows on Samsung Galaxy ID photos — built-in AI Erase Shadow in the Gallery app does it in a single tap. iPhone doesn't have this.
Device Requirements
You need a Samsung running One UI 6.1 or later (Android 14+):
- Galaxy S24, S25 series — comes with it
- Galaxy S23 series — after the One UI 6.1 update
- Galaxy A55 or newer
- Galaxy Z Fold5, Flip5 or newer
Check your version: Settings → About phone → Software information → One UI version. Older devices → see Method 2 below.
Method 1: Erase Shadow (Newer Samsung)
- Open the Gallery app and select your ID photo.
- Tap the Edit icon (pencil).
- Tap the More icon (three dots, bottom right) → Object Eraser.
- Tap Erase Shadow. AI detects and removes the shadow in a few seconds.
Not clean enough? Use your finger to outline the shadow area manually, then tap Erase — usually a better result than the auto pass.
Method 2: Manual (Older Samsung)
If your device doesn't have Erase Shadow:
- Open Gallery → select photo → tap Edit.
- Choose the Adjust tab (slider icon).
- Find the Shadows slider → drag right (+50 to +80) to lift dark areas.
- Find the Brightness slider → drag left (−15 to −30) to balance overall exposure.
- (Optional) Filters tab → pick Vivid or Lively for more vibrant color.
Final Step: Upload to anhthe.io
Upload the edited photo to anhthe.io — AI removes the background, adds a white backdrop and exports the correct size for passports, ID cards, driver licenses and visas.
Notes
- Avoid Beauty Mode/Smooth Skin after erasing the shadow — it can get the photo rejected.
- Run Erase Shadow at most 1–2 times. Repeated passes degrade image quality.
- If the shadow is too heavy, AI can't recover it — re-shoot with window light.
