How to remove face shadows and edit ID photos on iPhone — the Photos app has everything built in. No extra app needed. Just follow these three steps.
Step 1: Apply the Vivid Filter (Always)
- Open the Photos app and select your ID photo.
- Tap Edit in the top-right corner.
- Switch to the Filters tab (three overlapping circles) — the right-most tab.
- Select Vivid. Your face will look more vibrant and natural.
If your face has no shadow → tap Done to save and skip to Step 3.
Step 2: Remove Face Shadow (If Needed)
Still in Edit mode, switch to the Adjust tab (dial icon) — the middle tab. Tune the four sliders below, watching the preview as you go:
- Shadows → slide right (+50 to +80) to lift the dark areas on the face.
- Contrast → slide left (−10 to −25) so the shadow fades.
- Brightness → slide left (−15 to −30) to balance overall exposure.
- Brilliance (optional) → nudge right slightly. iOS will auto-balance light and dark zones.
Cycle through the sliders 2–3 times with small tweaks until it looks right. Tap Done to save.
Step 3: Upload to anhthe.io
Upload the edited photo to anhthe.io — AI removes the background, adds a white backdrop and exports the correct size for passports, ID cards, driver licenses and visas.
Notes
- Avoid Beauty or Smooth Skin filters — these can get your photo rejected because they alter facial features.
- If shadow covers more than half the face, editing won't fix it — re-shoot with window light.
- Works on any iPhone running iOS 13 or later (every iPhone from the 6s onward).
